Overcoming Sickness Poverty and Loneliness Chapter 2 of 16
<-Chapter 1 Chapter 3-> Show Condensed VersionThe Source Of Sickness
Consider the passage we shared from Genesis. Just about everything that you learn in the spiritual life, in doctrine and in the Word, somehow has its start in Genesis 1, 2 and 3.
If you go back there you will usually find a source, a foundational truth or a principle on which to base those doctrines. I have preached on the first three chapters of Genesis so many times I should know them off by heart by now.
It seems that whenever you want to find the source of something you go back there. And you find something there that gives you an indication of where things started.
So as I began to consider where sickness and disease originated from and where it first appeared, I figured the best place to start looking was to go back to the beginning.
I went back to Genesis 1 and read through to find out when the first occurrence of sickness and disease appeared. That was how I came up with this passage that I shared at the beginning.
I am sure that you have heard it so many times, and you have probably heard it preached on many times. I have preached on it many times myself.
But as I read this passage that I could probably preach on in my sleep, I noticed something I had never seen before. Isn't that the wonderful thing about the Word of God and the Spirit of God?
I am going to give you a new interpretation of this passage that you have probably never heard before.
I guarantee it because I had never heard it before. And if I had never heard it before the chances are nobody has taught it, because I know most of what is taught out there.
It is not a new doctrine, but I am going to try and share something powerful with you. The Lord just caught my attention in this passage to something I had never noticed before and it intrigued me.
Entrance of the Curse
When man first sinned and when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, it was the first appearance of sin in the world. It was also the first appearance of evil in the world.
Before that time the Scripture says God looked down on His creation and He pronounced everything as good. There was nothing bad or evil in the world.
There was just the capability for evil in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. That was the only place where there could be evil. Everything else was good.
Now suddenly for the first time we see the word 'curse' coming in. And as God speaks to the serpent, to the man and to the woman, the word that comes forth from Him includes a curse. We have mentioned curses a lot so far in this book.
God talked to the serpent. Now whether this was a physical snake or not is something people have fought on over the years.
Some people have tried to teach that the serpent was not a snake but was in fact human.
They say that the serpent had a form and a body, just like a human being. And that when Eve partook of the forbidden fruit, she and the serpent had sex and that was the original sin.
That is the kind of thing that comes out when you try and take everything absolutely literally without seeing that at times there is symbolism involved.
Even in the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil there is an element of both symbolism and reality there.
We have to be careful to try and see exactly what God is saying. And there always tends to be a bit of hidden truth; a kind of a dark saying there as God always gives things.
Eating Dust
As I looked up on the curses that were pronounced upon the serpent, the woman and the man, I noticed that God said something to the serpent that I hadn't seen before.
I grew up as a child knowing this Scripture. I am sure you all know it. God said to the serpent,
Upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.
I admit that I am not an expert on biology. But as far as I know I have not heard of a snake that lives off dust.
I have heard of snakes eating animals like egg eaters. I have heard of snakes eating all sorts of things, but I have never heard of one that eats dust. Have you?
"To feed your pet snake you just give him a bowl of dust once a day and that satisfies him. He gets stuck into the dust and eats it."
We just take it for granted. We have heard this Scripture over and over again and said,
"Well he's going on the dust on his belly, and that's what God meant."
No, God said, "He's going to consume the dust."
I looked up the Hebrew word there. As I did so I saw something that I had never seen before. I became puzzled and I thought,
"That is strange. What did God mean when He said the serpent was going to consume dust?"
Then I went on and noticed the word dust was mentioned again. God said to Adam,
In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken.
God never left it there. He said something else. He said,
For dust you are, and to dust you will return.
He was saying, "Adam you are a piece of dust."
What was God saying? He was referring to the elements of the earth that his body is made from; not his spirit but his body.
The Scripture says that God formed man from the dust of the earth. He breathed into him the Spirit of life and man became a living soul.
Man's body is made of dust. And God said to the serpent,
"You are going to eat dust."
Are you beginning to see something here?
God said, "Snake, you're going to be eating peoples'Â bodies."
Who was he talking to? He was not talking to a stupid little snake. He was speaking to the one who is the serpent, Lucifer, the prince of darkness.
Enmity with Man
What was God saying? He was saying,
"Satan, you are going to be involved in attacking and consuming that which is made of dust; the body of man."
Then just to reinforce it, God spoke to the woman and to the serpent, and concerning the serpent (Satan) and the woman. He said,
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed.
Here is what happened after the fall. When Adam was created he was made the god of this world because that is what he was. He was a spirit living in a human body.
Satan came along and he had no access to this world. But he saw one who did have access to the world through his body.
Because that spirit was living in a body, that spirit had access to this world. Satan had no access to this world because he did not have the physical body that Adam had.
Satan was jealous. He wanted to get that same access that Adam had in the world, and that access was through his body.
Satan is so jealous and so mad, because man has a body to communicate in this world which he does not have. Only a spirit, living in a body made from the elements of this world, has authority in this world.
If you would like to find out more about this subject, we recommend you get your hands on my teaching called The New Way of Blessing 1: Discovering Your Blessing.
Satan Wants to Destroy You
An enmity was set up between man and Satan. Satan hates man with a passion. He hates him because he has a body, and he wants to destroy that body.
God said concerning the woman and the Seed of the woman,
It shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.
Why will he bruise your heel? Because man, with the authority that he has in the earth, has the ability to stand on Satan's authority which his head is a picture of.
Man had authority over Satan in the earth. He was in control, so the serpent was hitting back.
He was hitting back to bruise his heel; to destroy the body. I am going to show you Scripture to prove this.
Satan is set to destroy your body. He is at enmity with you and he wants to destroy you physically.
He could only do that when he was given license in the Garden of Eden through sin. He came in to destroy, and it took him about 900 years to figure out how to do it.
God said to Adam,
In the day that you eat of that fruit you shall surely die.
But his day took 900 years, because it took the devil a while to find out how to kill this wonderful creation that God had made. Satan had 900 years of medical research before he learned how to kill a man.
He is a medical expert let me tell you. He knows more than the doctors of today do. He has all the tricks up his sleeve on how to kill you, while they are trying to figure out how to heal you.
He keeps throwing eye blinds to lead them off. It is to make sure they do not get to the truth of where he gets the power and how he does it, otherwise they will interfere with his work.
The Body Heals Itself
Right at the outset I want to make it very clear to you that sickness and disease do not come from God.
God is not the author of pain and suffering. He is not the author of sickness and disease. The Scripture says in James 1:17,
Every good and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights in whom there is no variation nor moving shadow.
God made man's body with healing built into it. And when man's spirit is dwelling in his body, his spirit dominates and controls that body and keeps it alive.
Only when the spirit leaves the body can the body die and decay. In the meantime Satan tries his best to make that body unfit to live in so that the spirit has to leave prematurely.
Sickness and disease occur in the body when the body's natural healing process is blocked. It is really that simple.
Anything that prevents your body from healing itself results in sickness. You just cut your finger and your body rallies together to heal it immediately. A scab begins to form and healing begins to take place.
The body heals itself. It purges itself and gets rid of the poisons. All the time the body is healing and rejuvenating itself.
It is even replacing itself as dead cells are falling off and new ones are being created. The blood cells are dying and are being recreated in the bone marrow. The body is reproducing and renovating itself continuously.
Sickness and disease come in only when something blocks that natural healing process; when it stops the body from maintaining itself in health.
Satan wants to make sure that your body cannot heal itself. So what he does is to block the body's healing processes to destroy your body
